Anna & Sam’s Wedding at Wynyard Hall | Second Shooting with Charlotte Nelson Photography

This September, I had the privilege of assisting Charlotte Nelson Photography at two of her end of summer weddings. The first was Anna & Sam’s beautiful celebration at Wynyard Hall.

It was an incredible opportunity to learn from a wedding photographer I’ve long admired, while also capturing photographs of my own throughout the day.

One of my biggest takeaways was just how much being a wedding photographer comes down to who you are on the day. You need to know how to fit in, read the room, observe everything and, above all, make the people around you feel comfortable. The technical side of photography almost becomes an afterthought.

I had to let go of the overthinking, trust my instincts and have confidence in what I already knew.

Of course, one of the joys of not being the lead photographer was having a little more freedom to experiment creatively. Some ideas worked beautifully. Others… well, they'll never see the light of day! But that's all part of learning, and I loved having the space to try something different.

So, let's get into it!

Wynyard Hall: A Wedding Venue to Remember

Wynyard Hall is an impressive Grade II listed country house dating back to the eighteenth century, nestled within a 400 acre estate near Stockton on Tees in County Durham.

With its sweeping grounds, walled gardens, woodland, cottages, restaurant and spa, it's the kind of place where you could easily turn a wedding into a full weekend away. There's so much to explore, and every corner feels like another opportunity for a photograph.

From the grand architecture to the quieter corners of the gardens, Wynyard Hall has that rare combination of grandeur and natural beauty that makes it such a wonderful setting for a wedding. If you're drawn to elegant country houses, beautiful grounds and a venue that feels special from the moment you arrive, it's well worth adding to your list.

Learning from Charlotte Nelson Photography

Charlotte Nelson is a luxury wedding and editorial photographer based in the UK, photographing celebrations around the world. We first connected back in 2019, partly through living in the Harrogate area and partly through our shared connections in the wedding industry.

Since I began building Framed by Katie this year, Charlotte has been incredibly generous with her support and encouragement. Having the opportunity to work alongside someone whose work I've admired for so long was a real full circle moment.

Watching how she moved through the day, connected with people and balanced creativity with the needs of her couples was just as valuable as the photographs I came away with. It reminded me that becoming a better photographer isn't only about learning new techniques. It's about experience, instinct and the way you make people feel.

A Special Thank You to Anna & Sam

A huge thank you to Anna and Sam for welcoming me so warmly and being happy to have me along for their day. It was such a joy to capture some of the highlights of their celebration, and I'm so grateful to have been part of it.
